CW Update 13 August 2019

Post by Rubicite » Tue Aug 13, 2019 9:55 am

Last night (Monday, 12 August), we "technically" went 3 - 5. However, two of the wins were by default.

We won two provinces, one earns 24 gold per day and the other earns 120 gold per day.

We moved our clan headquarters to the one making 120 gold per day so we began making money last night. The other province will likely be taken over since we cannot ransack unless we decide to abandon the map. The province with our headquarters has a battle time of 9:15pm (EST).

Our ELO declined to 717 (-14).

Currently, we are ranked #64 out of 96 clans in the Alley of Fame.

We had 37 members participate in Clan Wars last night.

Mission: "No Prisoners" - 300 gold
We destroyed 37 of 150 tanks.

Comments:
We had plenty of participation last night, which speaks well for the clan.

This season of Clan Wars is unlike any other that I've known. There were fewer than normal clans participating in conjunction with far more provinces. That meant that numerous provinces were taken without a fight. The most attackers that I can remember was only six. However, this was just the first night of Clan Wars and things could change.

The province that we decided to keep is the one that earns 120 gold per day. However, that province is a 9:15pm (EST) start time province. Today, that province is *NOT* a landing province (which could change in the future). We can be attacked by any of five different clans and, in turn, we can attack any of five different provinces that surround us.

We could also ransack the province and leave the map.

Owning the province restricts our ability to fight elsewhere and at other times. As long as we own land, we can only fight to defend our province and attack our neighbors ... all of which are in the 9pm - 9:15pm (EST) timezone.

Last, but not least, our very own HardCorpse plans to donate $20 for every 1000 gold we earn to the Gary Sinise Foundation, supporting First Responders, Veterans and their families. (https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/)

CW Update: 14 August 2019

Post by Rubicite » Wed Aug 14, 2019 1:37 pm

Last night (Tuesday, 13 August), we went 0 - 3 and are now 3 - 8 for the season. We lost both provinces that we owned.

Our ELO declined to 709 (-8) and, with 125 points, we are currently ranked #83 of the 86 clans in the Alley of Fame.

To date, we've had 41 different people participate in this season of Clan Wars.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 13 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We have destroyed 37 of 150 tanks.

Comments:
Again, we had plenty of people last night. The pace was really slow since we only played three battles all night. However, that's a function of owning land like we did.

Two of the three battles last night were land battles and locked out tanks for the next three days worth of other land battles.

Currently, we are no where near close to completing any mission for gold.

Tonight, we plan to resume our regular schedule, according to the sign-up sheet. That means that we could have battles spanning the entire period. I think that we will target mediocre clans that already own land in an attempt to boot them off.

15 August CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Thu Aug 15, 2019 10:56 am

On Wednesday, 14 August, we went 3 - 5 for the night and are now 6 - 13 for the season (31.6%). At the time a decision was needed, there were only 11 or 12 people signed up for the first hour so we didn't drop (after it was too late, the number increased to 14).

Our ELO increased to 721 (+12) and we are currently ranked #89 out of 127 clans in the Alley of Fame. Note: 41 new clans appeared in the Alley of Fame since yesterday.

We continue to have a decent showing of players, with 45 people participating to date.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 13 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We have destroyed 103 of 150 tanks. Hopefully, we can reach this goal tonight.

Comments:
41 new entries in the Alley of Fame is an increase of 47.7% in just one day. That's a lot for one day.

More and more, I saw top tier clans just squatting on what they have. Last night I noticed MAHOU had 14 provinces but only one scheduled battle, 200IQ had 8 provinces and only one scheduled battle, that goes on for OTTER, OPIC, Red Sky, ALERT, -G-, etc. My guess is that many people don't believe the rewards are worth the time and effort. Mediocre clans are also squatting on what they have, just trying to hunker down and defend. This is the strangest Clan Wars that I can remember.

As a result, we tried a new strategy last night. We targeted landing provinces that were owned by mediocre clans. This was moderately successful as we won 37% of our battles last night.

16 August CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Fri Aug 16, 2019 10:01 am

Last night (Thursday, 15 August 2019), we went 4 - 4 (two were technical wins) and captured two provinces. For the season, we are 10 - 17 (37%). Each of the two provinces that we won earn a whopping 24 gold/day but are far apart, so we can only get gold from one province. We can get gold from multiple provinces if they are contiguous. The province that we decided to keep (and we moved our headquarters there) is located in a far corner of the map (city of Sirte, on the Libyan coast). This province has a battle time of 9:15pm EST and has Fisherman's Bay as the map.

Unfortunately, that province remained a landing province so we are already getting clans dropping on us. Adjacent to us is an unoccupied province that has a 9:00pm battle. We'll attack there in hopes we can start building a little empire of our own.

Our ELO increased to 727 (+6), bolstered by a winning battle we should have lost [CRZY] but losing a battle we should have won [AO]. We are currently ranked #73 out of 132 clans in the Alley of Fame.

To date, 50 clan members have participated in this season of Clan Wars.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 13 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We completed this mission and are restarting it. We are at 0 of 150 destroyed tanks.

Callers:
Bibbles: 50% (2 of 4)
Ghost: 35.3% (6 of 17)

Comments:
50 out of the 76 members who have played a battle in the last 7 days have also participated in Clan Wars (65.8%).

The downside of owning and trying to retain land is we get restricted in where we can attack. For the land we want to keep, we plan to attack the only adjacent province to us and we'll try to defend our land against attackers. That also means that we'll likely have very few battles tonight, probably one defense of our land (unknown, but probably no earlier than 9:45pm EST), one defense of a province we don't plan to keep (likely no earlier than 11:45pm EST), and one attack (9:00pm EST).

An alternative strategy would be to switch our headquarters to the other province (located on the east coast of Spain). The advantage of that move is that there are TWO unoccupied provinces adjacent to ours that we could attack. However, the late hour also means there are far fewer people who are available.

Unrelated to our Clan Wars, I noticed the clan [-U-M-] has been kicked off the Global Map (they had at least 7 provinces that I can recall). On the first day of Clan Wars, [-U-M-] publicly shamed other clans to NOT fight them, claiming they would donate $10 for every 1000 earned gold to charities. As a result, [-U-M-] was able to take many provinces without a fight. D-Day was one of the clans they tried to publicly shame, although it backfired on them when people from other clans defended us and Hardcorpse doubled down on them with $20 donation for every 1000 earned gold.

17 August CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Sat Aug 17, 2019 9:17 am

Last night (Friday, 16 August 2019), we only played one battle, a defense of one of our provinces. We went 0 - 1 and, for the season, we are now 10 - 18 (35.7%).

We lost two provinces and gained one province located in Libya and paying 24 gold per day. That province has a battle time of 9pm EST and it's map is Ensk. Our province is NOT a landing province but two out of three adjacent provinces are. The rules say that we CANNOT attack a landing province from an adjacent province. That means that, tonight (unless we abandon the province), we only have one avenue of attack (which is a province with the exact same battle time as ours). One issue is that with the exact same battle time as our province, if we attack that neighbor, we could have two battles at the exact same time and we may not even know for sure until it's too late to change. Since we have 25 people signed up for that hour (as of 8:10am), we might not be able to field two full teams.

Our ELO decreased to 720 (-7) and we are currently ranked #79 out of 136 clans who are ranked. There are probably several more clans that have participated in Clan Wars but have not entered the rankings.

51 clan members have participated in Clan Wars this season, so far.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 13 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 8 of 150 destroyed tanks.

Callers (minimum of four called battles):
Bibbles: 50% (2 of 4)
Ghost: 33.3% (6 of 18)

Comments:
To date, our overall strategy has been to seek and hold provinces, trying to carve out a corner of the map for ourselves. However, that results in far fewer battles than normal, almost no flexibility in where/when to attack, and a lot of waiting around. Additionally, with most provinces only offering 24 gold per day, our payout isn't increasing very much. Over the next few days, we will examine whether we want to continue this overall strategy or change to one that seeks to maximize the number of battles per night with an eye towards completing missions. We would also look to cherry-pick lucrative provinces, if they seem attainable.

18 August CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Sun Aug 18, 2019 9:54 am

Last night (Saturday, 17 August), we didn't play a single battle, going 1 - 0 with a technical victory. We also won an automatic victory for another province. Currently, we own two adjacent provinces that are located on the Libyan coast. Both provinces earn 24 gold per day for a total of 48 gold per day and both have a scheduled battle time of 9:00pm EST.

Out of six surrounding provinces, five are landing zones which we cannot attack (although they can attack us). Neither of our two provinces are currently landing zones.

Our only offensive outlet is west towards Mizdah, which is also a 9:00pm EST battle time. The map is Fisherman's Bay.

Our ELO remained the same at 720. We are currently ranked #84 out of 141 clans who are in the Alley of Fame.

Missions are unchanged due to no battles last night:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 13 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 8 of 150 destroyed tanks

Comments:
We've begun creating our own little empire in Libya. Although we've owned multiple provinces in the past week, this is the first time they are contiguous, resulting in gold income from both provinces.

Because the rules prohibit us from attacking landing zones from an adjacent province, we cannot attack the five landing zones which border us. Landing zones can periodically change so we hope those change to regular provinces. Our only outlet is to the west, towards Mizdal. This province is owned by U-S-M, has a 9pm EST battle time, and it's map is Fisherman's Bay. We will likely attack that province, although if BOTH of our existing provinces are attacked, we may choose to either not to attack or we may choose to give up an existing province to better our strategic position.

Our current ranking of #84 places us outside the top 50%, which is the cut-off for reward camo.

As previously said, owning land removes our flexibility in where/when to attack, greatly reduces the number of battles we fight, and creates a lot of waiting around. On the other hand, owning provinces gives us a steady (albeit small) gold income and provides a psychological boost to the clan.

19 August CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Mon Aug 19, 2019 10:07 am

(Note: I was unable to participate in CW last night, so much of the information below is from the public CW logs.)

Last night, we had two actual battles, got a technical win and took a technical loss (without penalty). Our record for last night was 3 - 1 and our season record is now 14 - 19 (42.4%). Our two wins were against T-GBU, a higher-rated clan. Our technical win was against USM, which conceded their province without a fight, and our technical loss was against L-O-K, when we conceded our province without a fight.

Our ELO increased to 750 (+30) and our clan ranking is currently #87 out of 144 clans in the Alley of Fame.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 41 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 8 of 150 destroyed tanks

Comments:
The purpose behind our CW activity last night was to move westward, away from all those landing zones. Because so many battles were going to occur at the same exact time, we had to concede one province because we had two other battles at the same time. What was impressive, besides defeating a higher-ranked clan TWICE, but that we did it SHORT-HANDED BOTH TIMES!

Both of our provinces are income-producing but have battle times at 9pm EST. Ideally, we want to have provinces with different battle times so we can be more efficient with our online members. One option is to attack north since that province has a battle time of 9:15pm AND that province produces 120 gold/day rather than 24 gold/day. The owner is T-GBU and the map is Prokhorovka, where we've had success.

NOTE: Frontlines begins tonight. Please update the sign-up sheet to reflect whether you will be playing Frontlines or Clan Wars.

20 August CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Tue Aug 20, 2019 10:30 am

Last night (Monday, 19 August), we only fought one battle and lost. We also conceded a province as a technical loss without penalty. For the season, we are 14 - 21 (40%).

Our ELO decreased to 745 (-5) and we are currently ranked #87 out of 146 clans in the Alley of Fame.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 46 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 8 of 150 destroyed tanks

(Note: I'm keeping track of our callers win/loss rates for this season, but we're playing so few battles the percentages aren't changing very much.)

Comments and Opinions:
I'm wondering if our "take land and hold it" approach has been working. Let's look at some numbers (**math intensifies**):

- Completing missions will give us 300 gold for killing 150 tanks. That's a clear 2 gold per kill. However, there's no partial credit, we have to kill in increments of 150 to get ANY mission gold.
- At 2 gold per kill (at mission completion), a province that gives us 24 gold per day ("GPD") is worth 12 dead tanks. However, keep in mind the province payout is GUARANTEED per day while the mission gold is dependent on completing the mission.
- When we completed the mission "No Prisoners, Landing Zone" on 15 August, it took us 22 battles in four days to get 300 gold.
- Gold from that one mission is still 52% of our current CW gold, while province income is 48% (Note: a large portion of that province income is from the first day when we captured a province earning 120 GPD).
- After completing that mission on 15 August, we've earned 155 gold (to date), even though we've owned two income-earning provinces at the same time.

Let's say that we can continue making 300 mission gold per four days worth of battles (that's an assumption but 37.5 kills per day isn't wacky). That's equal to 75 GPD. To get 75+ gold per day from provinces, we need THREE of the 24 GPD provinces (and they need to be contiguous) OR we need ONE province earning 120 (or more) GPD.

Bottom Line: In the first four days of the season, we earned 74% of the gold we received to date (almost all of that was due to completing one mission and one days worth of a 120 GPD province. In the last four and half days, despite owning the most income-producing provinces, we've earned 26% of the gold we've earned to date.

21 August CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Wed Aug 21, 2019 4:58 pm

Last night, we abandoned our last province in favor of attacking two adjacent landing zones. In one province, we went 1 - 1 and in the other, we automatically won. For the season, we are now 15 - 22 (40.5%).

Our ELO increased to 750 (+5) and we are currently ranked #93 of 148 clans in the Alley of Fame.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 46 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 25 of 150 destroyed tanks [EDIT: Forgot to update this one]

Callers (minimum five called battles):
- Ghost: 35% (7 of 20)
- Stainless: 28.6% (2 of 7)

Commentary:
We've modified our strategy to try occupying landing zones which are adjacent to higher-payoff provinces. That way we can either attack the higher-payout provinces from the landing zones or abandon those landing zones and re-attack them or others. The benefit of occupying the landing zones is that there are far, far fewer battles for low-payout landing zones due to the 33% increase in the number of provinces on the Global Map AND adjacent provinces CANNOT attack into a landing zone.

Last night, we fought one battle and lost. For the season, we are 15 - 23 (39.5%).

Our ELO dcreased to 744 (-6) and we are ranked #94 out of 148 clans in the Alley of Fame. Note: unless WGNA changes the rules, only the top 50% will receive the Clan Wars reward camouflage.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 51 of 150 tanks
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 25 of 150 destroyed tanks

To date, 57 members have participated in this season of Clan Wars.

Callers (minimum five called battles):
- Ghost: 33.3% (7 of 21)
- Stainless: 28.6% (2 of 7)

Commentary:
It's obvious that Frontlines is having an impact on our participation rate. At most, we are able to field one team at a time, although I suspect in an emergency, members will rally.

We did not fight any battles last night, therefore there weren't any changes to our win percentage, mission progress, nor our ELO. Our clan ranking is currently #97 out of 149, which means we are significantly outside the top 50%.

Commentary:
We will likely abandon our single, 24 gold per day province in favor of either (or both): attacking provinces which earn 120 or more gold per day, or attacking provinces which position us to easily attack those more lucrative (and hopefully easier) targets.

Squatting on a 24 gold per day province earns us (literally) 1 gold per hour. We will most certainly not increase our clan ranking to get into the top 50% by doing that.
