2 Sept CW Update

Last night (Sunday, 1 Sept), we lost both battles that we played. For the season, we are now 39 - 41 - 1 (48.1%).

Our ELO decreased to 807 (-13) and we are now ranked #83 out of 160 clans.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 57 of 150 tanks (+6)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 47 of 150 destroyed tanks (+4)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 47 of 150 tanks. (no change)

Out of 83 members who have played in the last four weeks, 68 have participated in Clan Wars this season (82%).

Commentary:
As land owners, we were very limited in our ability to attack.

We saw an opportunity for a very lucrative province, even though we didn't think we had a very high chance of success. Therefore, we attacked hoping to defeat a better clan and take over that province.

Later in the evening, we were attacked and lost our most lucrative province, although we still retained another province.

Sometime today, we will likely leave the Global Map, giving up our 24 gold-per-day province so we can attack anywhere and anytime we have enough people signed up. Our goals are to (1) fight battles and kill tanks, and (2) take ownership of lucrative provinces. We didn't place our Headquarters last night because there's a 24-hour cooldown period after leaving the Global Map. We are targeting tonight for that, if we win the right province.

3 September CW Update

***SEASON 12 OF CLAN WARS IS SUPPOSED TO END AFTER 12 SEPTEMBER***

Last night (Monday night), we went 6 - 3 and captured two lucrative provinces. Unfortunately, they are four time zones apart so we can only receive income from one. For this season, we are now 45 - 44 - 1 for a 50% win rate.

Our ELO increased to 853 (+46), which is +122 from the start of Season 12. We are currently ranked #83 out of 161 clans.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 57 of 150 tanks (no change)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 117 of 150 destroyed tanks (+70)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 47 of 150 tanks. (no change)

Callers (minimum of five battles):
- Stainless: 52.9% (9 of 17)
- Ghost: 44.9% (22 of 49)
- Guardian: 40% (2 of 5)

Commentary:
The first province that we captured provides 240 gold per day. Luckily, we were able to directly attack the land owner when the other attacking clan pulled out at the last minute. However, that province has a battle time of 7pm EST, which is the time zone with only 12 people (for now) signed up to participate in Clan Wars. If we don't have enough people to defend the province, we'll have to abandon it. If we do, we won't be able to receive gold income for 24 hours after (INFO: there's a 24-hour cooldown period after moving your clan headquarters on the Global Map).

The last battle of the night was also a direct attack on the province owner. That province owner was barely able to field a team (12) and they did not all have Tier 10 tanks. That province is worth 120 gold per day, but since it is not connected to our headquarters, it doesn't provide income (INFO: provinces have to be geographically connected to the headquarters and have a division placed on them for the clan to receive income from multiple provinces). That province has a battle time of 11:15pm EST.

Of the three losses last night, two were third round losses against much higher rated clans. That also means that we won 2 out of 2 second round battles (historically, we've only won about 20% of second round battles).

Prior to this season, our historical win rate was 36.19% and we are currently at 50% for this season, a whopping improvement of 13.81% from our historical win rate!

So far, our ELO has improved 16.7% from the start of the season. That's a huge increase if we can sustain it.

Obviously, we would like to be able to defend our two provinces. The four hour disparity in their time zones makes it more difficult to do that. If we have to move off the Global Map, we'll probably try to focus on completing missions instead of taking land.

Last night (Tuesday, 3 September 2019), we went 1 - 2 and for the season, we are now 46 - 46 - 1, for a win rate of 49.5%. The only victory was a technical victory when the land owner didn't show. That province is worth 24 gold per day and is no longer a landing zone.

Our ELO decreased to 841 (-12) and we are currently ranked #83 out of 162 clans. We currently have 2,434 points, which is worth $30 of Hardcorpse's money towards the Gary Sinese Foundation (for first responders, veterans, and their families)

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 57 of 150 tanks (no change)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 133 of 150 destroyed tanks (+16)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 47 of 150 tanks. (no change)

Commentary:
Last night wasn't a very good night for us.

First, I pulled off the Global Map one turn late, which meant that we could not have a 7pm EST battle, despite having 15 people signed up (to be fair, the choices for 7pm battles were not very good). The reason that we pulled off the Global Map is that we were confident we would lose our province at 7pm EST due to the much higher ranked clan that dropped on us. If we would have remained on the Global Map, we would not have been able to schedule battles for 8pm, 9pm, or 10pm when we had the greatest number of people who had signed up. (INFO: If a clan already owns a province, they cannot schedule battles except against neighboring provinces, as long as those provinces are not landing zones. In our situation, that meant that we could not schedule ANY battles for the 8pm, 9pm, or 10pm time frame.)

Therefore, by pulling off the map, we were able to schedule battles for the 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm time periods. However, none of those time periods had particularly appealing battles, although we thought the 10pm battle on Prokhorovka had some potential for us. We hoped to make significant progress on missions, but when the first battle was a technical win, that cost us (probably) 15 tank kills. Eventually, by the time the night was over, we only had 16 tank kills across two battles. Currently, we are short by 17 tank kills to complete another mission for 300 gold.

The province that we captured is only worth 24 gold per day, HOWEVER, it borders two provinces to the north which are worth 240 and 120 gold per day AND which are owned by clans in our weight class. We have a real chance of defeating either or both of those clans.

Since our existing province is not a landing zone, we are subject to being attacked by our neighbors.

Last night (Wednesday), we went 4 - 5 and for the season, we are now 50 - 51 - 1 for a win rate of 49%. We did not capture any provinces.

Our ELO decreased to 822 (-19) and we are now ranked #78 out of 163 clans who are participating in Clan Wars. Currently, that places us barely inside the top 50%.

Missions: We completed one mission and last night and started over.
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 57 of 150 tanks (no change)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 35 of 150 destroyed tanks (+52)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 80 of 150 tanks. (+33)

Callers (with at least five called battles):

- Guardian: 37.5% (3 of 8)

Commentary:
We abandoned our only province last night because the two neighboring provinces that we might win were both revolting provinces, therefore would not have allowed us to complete a mission. (INFO: For this season, there are three types of provinces: regular (non-revolting), revolting, and landing provinces. Revolting provinces are regular provinces which have begun to get restless and have begun to revolt. Clans can spend Influence to "buy" down the restlessness to reduce the level of revolt.) Since the mission that we were close to completing was for 300 gold and the highest income province of those two neighbors was worth 240 gold, we thought it would be better to take more gold and keep our headquarters free to place on a new province. Unfortunately, we did not conquer a new province last night.

We ended the night destroying a total of 85 opposing tanks, which allowed us to complete one mission for 300 gold. We did not capture any provinces although we fought (and lost) a third round battle against a land owner.

On the positive side, since we don't own any land, we have an unfettered ability to attack anywhere and at any time across the map, depending on our sign-up sheet. Currently, we have enough people signed up for the second through fifth hours so that's what we'll plan on scheduling later this afternoon.

Last night (Thursday, 5 September), we went 1 - 4, with our only victory being a automatic win when the landowner didn't defend. Therefore, we captured a 120 gold-per-day province. For the season, we are now 51 - 55 - 1 (47.7% win rate).

Our ELO decreased to 799 (-23) and we are currently ranked #78 out of 163 clans.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 57 of 150 tanks (no change)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 57 of 150 destroyed tanks (+22)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 80 of 150 tanks. (no change)

Commentary:
Last night wasn't our greatest hour, but we also fought clans all ranked higher than us. Having said that, it would have been nice to have killed more than 22 tanks in four battles.

We moved our clan headquarters to the province that we captured so we can get the gold AND because we are not close to completing any missions. Our province battle time is 9pm EST and the map is Murovanka.

Later this afternoon, we'll look at the Global Map and decide whether to abandon the province to fight across the map or try to defend the province.

Last night (Friday, 6 September 2019), we went 3 - 0, which included two technical wins. For the season, we are now 54 - 55 - 1, for a win rate of 48.6%.

Our ELO increased to 823 (+24) due to one battle and we are currently ranked #77 out of 165 clans. Our ranking will slightly improve during the day.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 69 of 150 tanks (+12)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 57 of 150 destroyed tanks (no change)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 80 of 150 tanks. (no change)

Commentary:
We debated for a while whether we should continue to hold our one province or pull off and land across four time zones. The conservative approach was to hold on to what we have and collect gold each hour. A more risky approach was to pull off the map, fight as many battles as possible, and make progress on our missions. We knew that if we pulled off the map, we would not be able to collect province income for a full 24 hours later, even if we conquered a lucrative province.

For probably more than an hour, we went back and forth, took short breaks, and discussed the pros and cons of either the conservative or the risky approach. Eventually, the clan leader noticed an experienced Clan Wars player was online and brought him into the discussion. He looked at our positioning, looked around at the neighbors, and proposed that we attack the much higher rated clan (Clan A) in two adjacent provinces when he saw that they were already being attacked by another clan (Clan B). When we saw that Clan A had few recent battles, we began to wonder if they could field multiple teams at the same time.

We wanted to give them as little notice as possible, but the mechanics of the game demanded that we had to give an hours notice that we were attacking one of Clan A's provinces (INFO: when you own a province and you want to attack a neighbor, you have to move your division to that neighbor, leaving your original province without a division. Therefore, you have to recreate your division at the same time. This takes effect at the top of the hour.).

An hour later, we had to do the same thing (move a division out of our province to an adjoining province and re-create our division). Again, that took effect at the top of the hour, surprising Clan A that we were attacking them TWICE.

However, unknown to us, Clan A used one of their subsidiary clans (Clan C) to attack us in turn, forcing us to field two teams at the exact same time ... one to attack and one to defend our land. We only had enough people signed up for one full team so we had to scramble. Just like it has happened twice before, the clan responded and we were able to field two full teams (with extra).

When it was all said and done, Clan A was able to defeat Clan B (probably with their first string players), but was unable to field a full team against us at the same time. We defeated their short-handed team at the same time that Clan C was forced to forfeit their attack on us because they were not able to field a team. We then forced Clan A to forfeit the second battle, giving them a penalty. We went from owning one 120 gold-per-day province to owning three provinces giving us 840 gold-per-day.

To make the night even sweeter, HHOUR dropped on a 240 gold-per-day province and took it without a fight, giving HHOUR their first ever Clan Wars gold.

Tonight, we will have to see what other clans will do before we know what we will do.

Last night (Saturday, 7 September), we went 0 - 4, with all four losses as land battles. For the season, we are now 54 - 59 - 1, for a win rate of 47.4%.

Despite four losses, our ELO only decreased to 808 (-15) because all four losses were to much higher ranked clans. We are now ranked #72 out of 165 clans. That puts us at the 44th percentile.

Missions:
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 74 of 150 tanks (+5)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 58 of 150 destroyed tanks (+1)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 80 of 150 tanks. (no change)

Commentary:
It would have been naive of us to believe there would be no repercussions from taking two lucrative provinces from a top tier clan. Last night, we fought them and two of their related clans who took two of our three provinces. They will very likely take the last remaining province unless we decide to abandon it in favor or our missions. Unlike the previous night, they were easily able to field two full teams at the same time. Interestingly, they (and related clans) have probably fought more battles against us in two nights than they have fought against all other clans in the past week.

Of course, it was disappointing that we only destroyed 6 tanks out of four battles.

Our remaining province earns us 320 gold per day so even if we decide to abandon it, we'll likely keep it until the last minute.

SIDE NOTE: HHOUR is currently ranked #136 due to their ability to keep their province for a full day before they were kicked off it.

Commentary:
We pulled off the Global Map late yesterday afternoon, so we would not have been able to reconstitute our headquarters before today in the late afternoon. Without the ability to place our headquarters, we would not have been able to receive province income. Therefore, last night we focused on make progress towards completing a mission.

With four night left (supposedly), we will probably complete one mission tonight by destroying 28 tanks in revolting provinces and it is possible for us to complete another mission before the season ends, but we would likely need to focus on missions. Alternatively, if we complete one mission tonight, we could try to keep whatever provinces we capture and focus on defending our land. Because we don't know what opportunities will arise in the last few nights, we don't know what we will do yet.

We are inside the top 50%, which is required for the reward camouflage and emblems, but that is not guaranteed. I think that completing a mission tonight will almost assure us of a top 50% finish.

Reminder: clan members must have at least five Clan Wars battles AND still be a member of the clan in order to receive whatever rewards we earn.

Last night, we went 1 - 3 and for the season, we are now 56 - 66 - 1 (45.5%).

Our ELO fell to 783 (-4) and we are currently ranked #75 out of 168 clans.

Commentary:
WGNA has flopped back and forth on the last day of this Clan Wars season. Originally, they said it would end on Wednesday night (11 September) but later changed that to ending on Thursday night. They have now changed it back to ending tomorrow night (Wednesday, 11 September 2019).

Last night, our goals were to complete one mission and to capture a lucrative province. We failed on both of those goals, therefore, they will be tonight's goals. We are 16 tanks short of completing a mission for 300 gold and short by 70 tanks on another mission. In the next two nights, we will almost certainly complete one mission but it will be harder to complete two missions. On the other hand, any province that we capture tonight (regardless of income) will give us gold to the end of the season tomorrow night. Gold is the currency that determines clan rankings for this season.

We lost to a clan that we should have beaten (RAIDM) and we beat a clan that we should have lost to (USM). We lost to RAIDM when we were capped although we beat USM by killing all their tanks.

Our placement in the top 50% is fairly secure but we would like to pad that by obtaining additional gold. By placing in the top 50%, each eligible clan member receives:
- "Clan Assault" Style
- Season 12 emblem
- some kind of fiery clenched fist emblem
- a projection decal

To be eligible, a clan member must have at least five CW battles this season and still be a member at the end of the season.

SUPPOSEDLY, THIS IS THE FINAL NIGHT OF THIS SEASON

Last night, we went 2 - 2 and captured a lucrative province (240 gold-per-day). For this season, we are 58 - 68 - 1 for a 45.7% win rate.

Our ELO increased to 792 (+9) and we are currently ranked #72 out of 169 clans. At this point, we're pretty confident of finishing in the top 50% and receive the clan rewards.

Missions: We completed one mission for 300 gold.
- "No Prisoners, Regular": 300 gold. We have destroyed 74 of 150 tanks (no change)
- "No Prisoners, Landing": 300 gold. We are at 80 of 150 destroyed tanks (no change)
- "No Prisoners, Revolting": 300 gold. We have destroyed 15 of 150 tanks. (+31)

Callers (minimum of five called battles):
Stainless: 52.2% (12 of 23)
Ghost: 40.8% (29 of 71)
Guardian: 40% (4 of 10)

Commentary:
With supposedly one night left in this season, I think it's safe to say this season has been pretty successful:
- Top 50% finish;
- 69 members have participated;
- 45.7% win rate (so far) compared to a historical win rate of 36.19% (before this season); and
- ELO increased to 792 (so far), up 61 points from the start of the season.

The cutoff for a top 50% finish is #84 so our place of #72 is pretty safe.

It was interesting to see multiple top clans pull off the provinces that they held since the first night of Clan Wars. Because these top clans fought so few battles, many of their members were not eligible for the rewards the clan attained. Therefore, by pulling off the map, they could fight multiple battles across the map.

Because we captured a 240 gold-per-day province, we will likely just squat on the province and fight whoever attacks us. That likely means that we'll only fight ONE BATTLE OR LESS tonight (if no one attacks us).
