CW Update: 1 Oct 2019

Post by Rubicite » Tue Oct 01, 2019 10:40 am

We are about to start Season 13 of Clan Wars less than a month after finishing Season 12.

Season 13 is projected to last eight weeks, to the end of November, and there will likely be two weeks of Frontlines (one in October and one in November) during this period. Additionally, there are often holiday missions/events during the Halloween weekend, Veteran's Day weekend, and Thanksgiving weekend.

To date, for Tier 10 Clan Wars, our clan has:
* 1254 battles (we fought 110 battles in Season 12);
* Our starting ELO is 792 (we improved by 61 points during Season 12); and
* Our historical win rate is 36.44% (an improvement of .25% during Season 12).

CW Update: 2 Oct 2019

Post by Rubicite » Wed Oct 02, 2019 11:15 am

Last night, we went 1 - 1 and captured a province.

Our ELO increased to 795 (+3) and we are currently ranked #55 in Clan Wars, subject to change throughout the day.

Missions:
*"No Prisoners, Landing" (3,000 gold): 13 out of 150 destroyed tanks. (+13)
*"No Prisoners, Regular" (3,000 gold): 0 out of 150.
*"No Prisoners, Revolting" (3,000 gold): 0 out of 150
*"Fallen Fort" (500 gold): 0 wins of 1 in a revolting tournament province.

Callers:
Ghost: 50% (1 of 2)

Comments.
Last night, we only had enough people signed up for the 8pm and 9pm (EST) battle times, therefore we only dropped on battles during those times.

We captured a 120 gold per day province (Karelia map, 9pm EST battle start time).

That province (Americus) is one of the few landing zones and we already have four attackers dropping on us. The number of attackers will very likely fluctuate during the day. However, as long as there are at least two attackers, our defending battle time will be pushed back.

To our north is the province of Atlanta (240 gold per day, 9pm start) which is owned by a clan which doesn't appear able to field a team. They have zero CW battles at Tier 10 and upon further investigation, they only have 33 members who have been active in the last 28 days and of those 33, only 6 have a Tier 10 tank. That province is NOT a current landing zone.

Depending on how many clans attack us and how many attack Atlanta, we might attack north.

Alternatively, we could abandon the Global Map which would free us to attack elsewhere. However, with only enough people signed up for two time periods (out of five available), it may not be worthwhile to do that unless a more lucrative target becomes available.

3 Oct CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Thu Oct 03, 2019 1:47 pm

Last night (Wednesday, 2 Oct), we went 1 - 2, although our win was a technical win when the other clan didn't show up. For the season, we are 2 - 3 (40%).

Our ELO decreased to 787 (-8) and we are currently ranked #63.

Missions:
*"No Prisoners, Landing" (3,000 gold): 18 out of 150 destroyed tanks. (+5)
*"No Prisoners, Regular" (3,000 gold): 13 out of 150. (+13)
*"No Prisoners, Revolting" (3,000 gold): 0 out of 150
*"Fallen Fort" (500 gold): 0 wins of 1 in a revolting tournament province.

Comments.
Last night, we attacked out of our province and took a more lucrative province that gives us 240 gold per day instead of 120. As the night progressed, we lost two battles and our original province.

We are not close to completing any missions.

Currently, we are being attacked by WONKA, located to our west (Anniston). Oddly, they have not re-organized a division in that province (yet), making it seem they are trying to swap provinces with us so they can get closer to consolidating their land. If the situation continues, we may attack west into their undefended province since the likelihood is they will take Atlanta from us anyway.

As of right now, we do not have a full team signed up for Clan Wars, with 12 signed up for the 9pm hour.

4 Oct CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Fri Oct 04, 2019 1:53 pm

Last night (Thursday), we did not participate in Clan Wars because we did not have enough people signed up for a full team.

We left the Global Map because of concerns we would be able to defend our province. However, that means that we are now free to attack at any time that we have sufficient people signed up.

5 Oct CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Sat Oct 05, 2019 9:11 am

Last night (Friday, 4 Oct), we went 1 - 2 and for the season, we are 3 - 6 (33%).

Our ELO decreased to 786 (-1) and we are currently ranked #86 in Clan Wars.

Missions:
*"No Prisoners, Landing" (3,000 gold): 45 out of 150 destroyed tanks. (+27)
*"No Prisoners, Regular" (3,000 gold): 13 out of 150. (no change)
*"No Prisoners, Revolting" (3,000 gold): 0 out of 150
*"Fallen Fort" (500 gold): 0 wins of 1 in a revolting tournament province.

Callers:
Stainless: 100% (1 of 1)
Ghost: 28.6% (2 of 7)

Comments.
We had a good turnout last night, easily fielding teams when needed. It hurt us when we received a second round bye since that put us in a third round battle against a very, very good clan.

We made decent progress on one mission, almost one third of the way through completion. The "No Prisoners" missions have the same requirement as last Clan Wars season (destroy 150 tanks), but the payout is 3,000 gold instead of 300. By some comparison, in the last Clan Wars season, we earned 4,547 gold and completed this type of mission about once every 7 - 10 days, on average.

6 Oct CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Sun Oct 06, 2019 10:17 am

Last night (Saturday), we went 0 - 2 and for the season, we are 3 - 8 (27.3% win rate).

Our ELO decreased to 770 (-16) and we are currently ranked #90.

Missions:
*"No Prisoners, Landing" (3,000 gold): 67 out of 150 destroyed tanks. (+22)
*"No Prisoners, Regular" (3,000 gold): 13 out of 150. (no change)
*"No Prisoners, Revolting" (3,000 gold): 0 out of 150
*"Fallen Fort" (500 gold): 0 wins of 1 in a revolting tournament province.

Comments.
Last night we lost to a lower rated clan as well as a slightly higher rated clan. Despite the two losses, we continue to make progress on completing our primary mission. Losing hurts, but if we can manage 11 kills per loss, that mitigates the pain.

We have been scheduling battles in accordance with our sign-up sheet. So far, this season, that usually means battles in the 8pm and/or 9pm EST timeframes. That appears to be what the clan is willing to support so far. We've been scheduling one battle per time period in an effort to avoid any "red light" battles. Another option is to be more aggressive in scheduling battles by planning TWO per time period. In the past, this type of aggressive scheduling results in much higher kill rates but it also results in about a 20% - 25% requirement for red lighting. Red lighting is a by-product of aggressive scheduling and negatively impacts clan morale.

Note: "Red light" battles are defined by us as low effort battles.

7 Oct CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Mon Oct 07, 2019 2:22 pm

Last night (Sunday, 6 Oct 2019), we went 2 - 3, with one of the losses a technical loss. This was the first penalty that we've received in several Clan Wars seasons. We received the penalty because we could not field two teams at the exact same time. The overlap was caused when we received a bye in the second round of an earlier set of battles. The bye pushed us into the third round which competed with a first round battle in a different set of battles.

1st round battle (8:00pm) -> 2nd round BYE (8:30pm) -> 3rd round (9:00pm)
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ 1st round battle (9:00pm) -> 2nd round (9:30pm)

Our ELO increased to 779 (+9) and we are currently ranked #97 in Clan Wars.

Missions:
*"No Prisoners, Landing" (3,000 gold): 106 out of 150 destroyed tanks. (+39)
*"No Prisoners, Regular" (3,000 gold): 13 out of 150. (no change)
*"No Prisoners, Revolting" (3,000 gold): 0 out of 150
*"Fallen Fort" (500 gold): 0 wins of 1 in a revolting tournament province.

Comments.
Getting a penalty sucks in general, but thankfully having one penalty is just a WARNING and does not have any consequences. For this season, penalties are "on the books" for one week. After that week has passed, the penalties are wiped and we start over with zero.

In previous seasons or campaigns, whenever we got into a situation with having a second round bye, we were able to cobble together another team at the last minute. Despite trying, we came up short by four people to be able to field two short-handed teams.

Aside from the penalty, we had a decent night since we destroyed 39 tanks and are over 2/3 completed with our primary mission. I hope to kill the necessary 44 tanks within two more nights.

We didn't have enough people signed up for a full team, therefore we did not drop on any provinces last night.

12 Oct CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Sat Oct 12, 2019 2:51 pm

Although the Global Map was unfrozen yesterday, we did not have enough people signed up (in time) to drop.

As of 4:30pm EST, our existing warning penalty expires in one day and 6 hours.

In clan chat, there was some discussion about dropping anyway since there were over 20 people online. However, people should keep in mind that participation in Clan Wars is currently NOT MANDATORY, therefore we use the sign-up sheet to determine people who CHOOSE to play Clan Wars. Simply being logged into the game isn't a decision to participate in Clan Wars.

Scheduling battles must occur by the end of the previous turn. Turns occur at the top of each hour. That means that we have to have enough people signed up by the end of the previous hour to know if we have enough people. Since that would leave us no time to drop, we would actually like people to sign up at least 15 minutes before that, giving us 15 minutes to figure out the best place to attack.

Example: John Doe decided to sign up for the 9pm battle and he did that at 8:15pm. That's too late since the turn ended at 8pm. Now let's say that John Doe signed up for the 9pm battle at 7:59pm. That's within the necessary turn but only gives the clan 1 minute to decide what to do.

13 Oct CW Update

Post by Rubicite » Sun Oct 13, 2019 11:03 am

Last night (Saturday, 12 Oct), we went 2 - 1 - 1 and for the season, we are 7 - 12 - 1 (35%).

Our ELO increased to 796 (+17) and we are currently ranked #117 out of 134.

Our existing warning penalty expires tonight at approximately 10pm. Once it expires, it is wiped from the books.

Missions:
*"No Prisoners, Landing" (3,000 gold): 143 out of 150 destroyed tanks. (+37)
*"No Prisoners, Regular" (3,000 gold): 13 out of 150. (no change)
*"No Prisoners, Revolting" (3,000 gold): 0 out of 150
*"Fallen Fort" (500 gold): 0 wins of 1 in a revolting tournament province.

We've had 46 people participate in Clan Wars this season. In the last 28 days, we've had 81 active members, so our CW participation rate among active players is about 57% (not that good).

Comments:
Perhaps it was just me, but it felt good to get back into Clan Wars (our last CW battle was on 6 October). Although we were marginal in the number of people who signed up, we still had plenty of people.

After our penalty expires tonight, we may be slightly more inclined to schedule battles when only 13 or 14 people sign up.

Because we destroyed 37 tanks last night, we are very, very close to completing a mission for 3,000 gold. For some perspective, an additional 3000 gold (used in the CW ranking system, would jump us from being ranked #117 to approximately #79.
